Description

This short and rewarding walk takes you to Winshield Crags, the highest point of Hadrian’s Wall, offering spectacular views across Northumberland. Starting from The Sill (YHA Hadrian’s Wall), this is a perfect shorter option for exploring the wall without committing to a longer hike.

The route combines paved roads, good unpaved paths, and grassy sections with occasional rocky patches. You’ll follow the lane uphill through gateways, ascending through moorland terrain to reach the dramatic crags. The highlight is the trig point at Winshield Crags itself, where you can enjoy commanding views of the surrounding countryside and the ancient Roman wall stretching into the distance.
